Mother Goose

Mother Goose, 2024/25
by Fraser Boyle and Ken Alexander
Gaiety Theatre Ayr

Mother Goose is a good egg, the most giving of souls – salt of the earth and kind to a fault – she would give you her last ha’penny if you needed it. But when her faultless generosity lands her neck deep in the stinking Ayrshire proverbial, it will take a touch of eggs-ellent panto magic to save her Ayrshire bacon. In these tough times who could turn down a Goose that lays Golden Eggs? But will it really help her, or will it set her down a path towards eggs-treme greed and vanity? You can’t make an omelette without breaking a few eggs after all…

Fraser Boyle and Ken Alexander’s new telling of Mother Goose was a five star hit at the Gaiety Theatre Ayr, nominated as ‘Best Panto (Under 500 Seats)’ in the UK Panto Awards 2025, with a second nomination for Jamie McKillop as ‘Best Supporting Performer’ for his role as ‘Kelvie Goose’.

***** "There it is, folks: the pantomime. This is how it’s done, a pantomime with an old soul, a contemporary mindset, and nothing but joy in its heart. This year’s Ayr Gaiety Pantomime, Mother Goose, has it all, but it isn’t just ticking boxes; it’s snapping up the barriers and presenting a pantomime with such flair, authenticity, and respect for the art form and accessibility that it’s showing the rest of us how it’s done. And the best part of it all? It’s a bloody fantastic show to boot."
